From the jungle

Hi everybody,
I am checking in, again, from the town of Palenque. I feel much better than I did a few days ago; have kicked the cold, and was able to paint on-site at Palenque ruins yesterday, which made me very happy. Right now we are in the middle of a tropical deluge. I had forgotten it was possible to have rain this heavy. My goodness! I´m glad I spent yesterday painting!

A jungle creek I visited with a nice woman from Switzerland. It has probably doubled in volume since the day before yesterday because, my goodness is it raining right now!

Here is where I painted yesterday: an inspiring view. I am committed to doing more painting, too, now that I´ve gotten into it.

My painting of the Temple of the Cross, as seen from the Palacio.

El Palacio from across a very green lawn. There were a few sun-breaks yesterday that yielded some spectacular shades of green.

Temple of the inscriptions, from across the site. Notice there is a person in front of the temple, in red, at the very bottom of the stairs. This gives an idea of the scale of the structure. There is a tomb inside, but it is the one structure visitors are not allowed to climb or enter, for preservation purposes.

I love the structures like this one in the jungle, with trees growing out of them. I painted here for a while, too.

Maya heiroglyphs found in the museum at Palenque

This is the Mayan heiroglyph for ¨Sage/Artist¨

Before leaving San Cristobal, I was able to catch a photo of this woman and her child. This is the way hijos are traditionally carried here in Chiapas. I think the kids get very strong, from holding themselves up. The moms, too, appear to be strong like this one.
So, that´s all for today. Thank you for checking in. It may be a few days before I post again because I will be in transition for a couple days. Love to you all!
